Keeping in mind my own theme of “the year of hardwork” it was interesting to see that saying no to temptation is actually a lot of hard work. Of course there are times where God’s grace keeps us from temptation… where we are delivered from evil. However, on most matters, choosing rightly, doing the things that need to be done, not doing the things that should not be done, takes a lot of effort, discipline and even perseverance.

Of course, in my experience, God’s grace has kept me from a lot of negative stuff that I don’t think my body would be able to handle, and also through God’s grace I still stand, even though I have fallen. Still, now that more and more is being expected of me… as a mature believer of God… the “effort” taken to say no/yes… has multiplied. Yes, overcoming temptation is truly blood/sweat/toil hard.

Passage for this Season

Philippians 2:11-13 (NIV) (12)Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, (13)for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
